Everyone should pursue a hobby. When I was twelve years old, my mom bought me a telescope. After my brother used it as a baseball bat to knock a ball over the house, my hobby went dormant. It wasn’t until I was an adult that I picked it up again and have been an amateur astronomer since. The photo you see above was my first successful astrophoto using a relatively inexpensive telescope and a run-o-the-mill Canon camera. My telescope and camera are much more sophisticated than that first set up, but the joy of seeing deep is the same as it always was.

It’s a pity that my first science fiction novel didn’t have aliens, but there’s always time.
